As our Spring 2024 rush ends, we pinned 24 PNMs on Sunday, February 11th. During our two week rush process, our Pledge Marshals and members advertised our rush events with tabling and class presentations. We met a lot of incredible people at our rush events: game night, jeopardy, s'mores, etc. Following pinning was an amazing lunch prepared by a few brothers. It was wonderful to greet and welcome the new PNMs into this fraternity. We're looking forward to getting to know them and eventually accepting them into our brotherhood. Welcome to the second installment of the Upsilon Update. A lot has happened since our last post, including a trip to regionals and the initiation of several new members. But first, a quick officer update:
Central Regional Conference In our last update, we mentioned that we were packing up and preparing for our central regional conference hosted by Tau Beta chapter at SMU. We took 13 people, including 7 officers and 3 of our pledges at the time. We had an excellent time in Dallas and loved meeting some of our brothers. Huge shout out to Tau Beta for hosting an amazing regional conference. New Initiates After starting the month with regionals, we had several busy weeks concluding pledgeship and gearing up for initiation. Our 14 pledges spent the last two weeks of pledgeship constructing a new fire pit for our back yard. On November 4th, all 14 pledges were initiated. Election Season While the country is currently wrapped up with midterm elections, our chapter is also preparing for officer elections for next Spring. Nominations for all eight officer positions will take place on November 13th, with speeches and voting the following week on November 20th. With pledgeship over and officer elections just around the corner, this semester is quickly coming to a close, but we still have a few things planned before the holidays. Stay tuned for future updates.
In H&T, Aidan Ayers Web Chair Theta Tau Upsilon Chapter Welcome to the first of what will hopefully be many monthly blog posts about the proceedings of Upsilon chapter. It has only been a little over a month since the beginning of our academic year, and our chapter has been hard at work making it a productive start to the semester. Our officers for this semester are as follows: Regent: Zach Leondike Vice Regent: Seth Turner Scribe: Laney Pennington Treasurer: Casey Gatto Marshal: Aidan Ayers Inner Guard: Nick Wagner Outer Guard: Maddie Kelly Corresponding Secretary: Audrey Dizdar And now, what have we been up to? Home Sweet Home Over the summer, 10 members moved into our chapter's house, joining the 3 other residents to fill all but one of its rooms for the first time in several years. Having the house full has been an absolute blast, as there are always members hanging out in the common areas. However, having more people in the house has also revealed the areas that haven't been properly maintained and are in need of upkeep and repairs. Thanks to the hard work of our Outer Guard and Housing chair, Maddie Kelly, and some help from the Theta Tau Educational Foundation, we have been able to fix a few of the most urgent issues (such as the AC going out in an entire wing of the house), but we are still hard at work dealing with other problems. If you would like to help us with some of these repairs, the Educational Foundation has set up a donation page which can be found through our Donation page. We appreciate your support in making our house a home. Also, with more people in the house, we've been having more regular brotherhood events. One of our big hits recently has been our Movie Mondays. Last week we watched No Country for Old Men with some of our pledges, and this week we watched Friday. Theta Tau Says Go Hogs!!!
The Next Generation Pledgeship is already in full swing and our pledges are taking everything in stride. They've been doing an excellent job coming around the house and getting to know our members. On top of this, they are clearly making an effort to learn their knowledge and have been asking great questions about the operations of the chapter. I foresee several future officers in their midst. In even more exciting news, the pledges received their bigs last night! There were smiles all around, and it was telling how well they were paired when they all stayed over an hour after the reveal just to talk with their bigs. Regionals, Here We Come As I write this, several members (and 3 of our pledges) are packing their bags and preparing to drive down to Dallas for our Central Regional Conference, hosted this year by Tau Beta chapter at SMU. For most of our cohort, this will be the first regional conference any of us have attended and we could not be more excited. We are all looking forward to meeting our brothers from other chapters and getting to hear about how their years have been going. Look out for our October update where we will have a recap of our regionals experience. New Merch Our Fashion chairs, Audrey Dizdar and Seth Turner, have been coming out with several designs for new t-shirts, a crewneck, and there has even been talk of an Upsilon chapter polo. We also have a few extra shirts from previous semesters, and we are working on making these shirts available for purchase on the website. Keep an eye on the website for whenever new apparel becomes available.. Founder's Day On October 15th, in honor of Founder's Day, our Brotherhood chairs, Ethan Garza and Kyrsti Fitts, will be hosting a tailgate and watching the Razorback game, and then having a family dinner. We would love for our alumni to attend and meet our new pledge class. Overall, this semester is off to an incredibly strong start and we are all excited to see what the rest of the year has in store. Keep an eye on our Events page for up to date information on our upcoming plans, and check out our Donation page if you would like to support us. In H&T,
Aidan Ayers Web Chair, Theta Tau Upsilon Chapter So far, Fall 2018 has been a great semester! Our chapter has made a lot of positive changes, such as putting more focus on the service pillar of Theta Tau. We are striving to be the best chapter we can be. This newsletter can be used as a quick update on all that has happened this semester! The officers from this semester are as follows: Regent- Nicole Frear Vice Regent- Alex Main Scribe- Bailey Wheetley Marshall- Keegan Riley Treasurer- Jeremy Muniz Corresponding Secretary- Abigail Eaton This past Summer, 6 members of the Upsilon chapter were selected by the other members to attend the Theta Tau National Convention. While there, they were able to converse with other chapters and gain some new ideas to implement back home. Overall, they all had an amazing experience in the beautiful city of San Diego and were able to reconnect with former member turned regional director: Samantha Cloud. Pictured: (top left) Alex Main, Zach Laster, Kaleb Crow, Keegan Riley; (bottom left) Katy Emerson, Sam Cloud, Nicole Frear Regionals this semester was hosted by our bothers from Oklahoma State University. Many members, as well as a majority of the pledges at the time, attended. We hosted a great Halloween party this semester as well! Many members participated in Make A Difference Day. This day is devoted to community service and offers many events to choose from that better our community. Most members helped to clean up the trails of Fayetteville and sort donations for a thrift shop dedicated to local charities. In the picture above, the three volunteers to the furthest right are the members who participated in one of the many trail section clean ups. Pictured: (left to right) John Blackman, Jacob Baggett, Aaron Ivy Overall, it has been a great semester, and we're excited to see what our fraternity will accomplish and how much it will grow in future semesters. If you would like to stay up to date on Theta Tau events, please check out our Facebook page for the most recent updates! On our page, we also offer Upsilon chapter apparel and are selling bricks to alumni that will be engraved with their names and incorporated into the front of the chapter house for years to come. If you have any questions about our chapter, please feel free to email us! We hope you have a great rest of your year and would like to thank you for being the reason our chapter is still evolving and offering brotherhood to fellow engineers today.
